In remembrance of James M. Shirky

Jim Shirky

Jim Shirky died July 24,2022.  He taught Humanities for 36 years and was very involved in the Searcy House plan. Jim touched many lives within the Stephens community in memorable ways. He will continue to positively impact future generations of Stephens through the James M. Shirky Endowed Scholarship Fund, which his family selected for memorials. The Scholarship commemorates Jim's teaching career at Stephens College and his ability to inspire students to academic achievement and leadership.

Read Mr. Shirky's obituary in the Columbia Tribune  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family asked for gifts in memory of Mr. Shirky be made to the Jim Shirky Endowed Scholarship.

We honor alumnae, families and friends who fund and name scholarships. With almost 200 scholarships, hundreds of awards are made each year. There are two types of named scholarships:

Endowed scholarships have funds invested in perpetuity and awards are funded through investment earnings.

Annual scholarships start as five+ year commitments to annually fund a scholarship, usually for at least $5,000 per year. The full amount is awarded to a student each year.
